CCTV

S.C.A.M.P Security supplies and installs a wide range of CCTV systems to suit your needs. Whatever your requirements, the system will be custom designed using the most appropriate equipment. The system can be monitored via our Remote Video Receiving Centre, see RVRC for further details.

Historically, CCTV has not presented much of a deterrent to the professional criminal as they have known that the quality of the images is often insufficent to use as evidence. This has changed in recent years with improved technology providing high quality digital colour video which can be used as evidence in court. The professional criminal knows this and will probably avoid your premises altogether if there is evidence of a professionally designed and installed CCTV system.

If your premises should be subject to a crime, the evidence will be recorded to assist the police and may be acted upon immediately if the system is monitored by our RVRC.

A CCTV system is more than just a means of recording crime though. A correctly designed CCTV system can provide a wealth of information when used to its maximum advantage. The system may be used to monitor vulnerable or unmanned areas during the day and can assist in other areas such as health and safety by monitoring workers and also by means of recorded evidence where an accident has taken place.

Typically, a system will comprise the camera(s), a means of control, a means of recording and a means of display. An example of the type of equipment we might include in the specification include items from these 4 areas as seen below:

Cameras:
Fixed Black and white cameras. A basic camera which might be used to cover a small fixed area such as a doorway.
Fixed Colour Camera - As above but with a colour picture providing more information
Colour Dome Cameras - these include auto switching speed domes which can rapidly move to a preset position & focus and also automatically switch from a superb colour picture during daylight to a high definition monochrome picture during darkness.
Doorphone systems - these typically incorporate an external unit with a camera, speech unit and call button (may also incorporate a keypad or reader for staff to gain access) and an internal unit with monitor, speech unit and door release.

Control Equipment:
Switcher - allows the image on a monitor or into a recording device to be changed.
Multiplexer - allows all channels to be simultaneously recorded and viewed at will both live and during playback.

Recording Equipment:
Time Lapse Video Cassette Recorder - this is the traditional means of recording CCTV but relies on VHS tapes. With repeated use these tapes will degrade (although it is recommended that each tape is only used 12 times before being replaced) and an incident can be difficult to locate if it is on an unknown position on the tape. It is also reliant on the user to change the tapes and not allow them to run out (including holidays when someone still needs to attend to change the tape.
Hard Drive Recorder - this is the modern solution to recording CCTV. All images are recorded to a hard drive in crystal clear non degrading digital quality and any image from any camera on any date & time is instantly accessible. These incorporate an integrated multiplexer and can be IP addressable meaning that authorised members of staff can view live and recorded images across your company LAN/WAN or over the internet. The system permanently records to its maximum capacity 24 hours per day (when the drive is full, new images will overwrite the oldest images on the drive) and you never need to remember to change a tape again. The system even continues to record whilst you are viewing stored images.

Monochrome or Colour Monitors in a range of sizes.
